Tree Works close to The Gardens

Added at 14:02 on 06 September 2024

Guildford Borough Council will be undertaking woodland management works no either side of The Gardens fro 30th September 2024. The works will be ongoing for 2 weeks and the works are to remove trees to create a woodland ride either side of the path that will turn four separate parcels of the heathland (managed by GBC) into one.

The anticipated benefits of this connection are to allow the precarious populations of nationally scarce butterflies (the Silver studded Blue and Grayling) that live there to travel between the heathland parcels and form a "super population" more resistant to becoming locally extinct. This is a particular priority for the Silver studded Blue as the local population in Pirbright has fallen significantly in recent years. It should also improve the biodiversity within the woodlands by creating a mingling of habitats along this new woodland ride.
